Tips to reduce Stress

Stress is the feeling of being under too much mental or emotional pressure, when you feel unable to cope, which can cause health problems

We all experience stress at one stage or another. It can be caused by health issues, money worries, constant worrying, loneliness, pressure at work, no work, lack of control, family problems, bereavement, divorce and many other reasons.  Stress is recognised to be one of the main causes of sick absence from work and it seems that more and more children are suffering with stress due to school or peer pressure.  However, a situation that feels stressful to one person may be motivating to someone else and this can be down to our past experiences, our leant behaviours, our thought processes and our own level of self-esteem.

So how can hypnotherapy help reduce stress levels……………..

Stress is caused by our subconscious protecting us.  We may go into a fight or flight response when we are in an uncomfortable situation.  Our subconscious can’t tell the difference between what is real and what we are imagining so it sometimes acts as if we are in a life threatening situation when in fact all we are doing is for eg. a presentation in front of 20 people or starting a new job!  We are then left with all this extra energy with nowhere for it to go.  This can leave us with feelings of stress, anxiety, anger, depression, frustration, insomnia and mood swings

Being stressed is a physical reaction as much as an emotional one. Stress is everywhere in our lives these days. You cannot change that, but you can change your reaction to it.  The aim is to find ways of managing stress and using it to our advantage

Self-hypnosis – tips for relaxation

Hypnosis is known to be a powerful tool to help reduce stress.  In fact, hypnotherapy for stress can be effective even after just one session

You can complement your hypnotherapy sessions with self-hypnosis at home.

1. Find a place where you can relax and be free of too many distractions e.g. your favourite chair, lying on your bed.

2. Take in a slow deep breath, imagining you are breathing in positive thoughts and feelings and then gently close your eyes.  As you exhale, relax your body as much as you can and blow away any worries, stress and negative thoughts.

3. Count down from 10 -1 with each deep breath, feeling yourself sinking deeper and deeper into the chair.  When you get to 1, imagine the most peaceful place for you, whether it’s a tropical beach, a beautiful garden or maybe your home.

4. Then repeat positive affirmations.  For eg.  I am calm…..I am relaxed…..I am in control

Whatever you say to yourself in your mind, make sure it is positive (so don’t say to yourself…I am not stressed… as the subconscious does not recognise the negative.)

After approximately 2 mins, you can count out 1,2,3, open your eyes and continue with your day.  I if you do this every day for two weeks, you will find that you start to think more positively.

How are you doing with your New Year’s Resolutions?

How are you doing with your New Year’s Resolutions?

If you’ve been successful, congratulations!  If not, don’t feel bad that you joined the gym, went a couple of times and haven’t been since…… most people break theirs after a couple of days! Read on…..

Did you focus on what you ’should’ do and not on what you want or build in failure before you have even started?   This is an easy trap to fall into. After all, there are plenty of things we probably ’should do’, ‘ought to’, ‘have to’ that didn’t seem a lot of fun, at any time of year and then build in failure on top of that and you have practically hypnotised yourself to fail.
The following start with ‘problem focused’ statements. It’s a classic case of ‘don’t think of a pink elephant’ – your brain can’t process these statements without making you think about what youdon’t want.

Make the following changes:

‘I should really lose some weight’      to      ‘I’m going to look fantastic in my bikini on the beach!’
‘I need to get fit this year’      to      ‘I want to have a toned body’
‘I ought to give up smoking’      to      ‘ ‘I am going to have a clean smelling breath!’
‘I have to do my tax return’      to      ‘My tax return will be dealt with on time’
‘I must cut down on my drinking’      to      ‘I am going to look after my mind and body’
“I’m going to lose that 15 pounds this year, I hope”      to      ‘I am going to achieve my target weight’
“I’m going to try to lose those 15 pounds”      to      ‘I will be my desired weight’
“I’m going to lose 15 pounds—at least for a while.”      to      ‘I will be slim and fit for life’

Did you rely on willpower?  Smokers are particularly fond of this one. The idea is that if you exert enough of this magical force, you will somehow be able to overcome your real desires (’cravings’, ‘temptations’ etc) and stop yourself doing what you desperately want to (smoking cigarettes, eating cream buns, drinking too much etc.).
The big problem with willpower is that it’s hard work. You have to force yourself to go to the gym and remember not to eat that cream bun! You have to be vigilant at all times, avoiding giving in to weakness.  After all, you’re only human – sooner or later, your resolution cracks and you wake up the next morning cross with yourself for not being strong enough to resist temptation.
Fortunately with the use of hypnosis, you don’t need to worry about willpower.

The only way to keep a resolution is to get the subconscious and the conscious in agreement.  If our conscious was the part that was in control, it would be easy to stop smoking/drinking/biting nails, however it’s the subconscious that is control and that is why we need to access it and the best way to do that is through hypnosis. So why contact us?  No matter what you are facing, we are sure that we can help you.  We have a proven track record of success – just look at the testimonials .  We are friendly, informal, affordable and here to help, so no matter what your concern is – get in touch and we can have a no-obligation chat so you can “set yourself free”.

Weight Control.

February is a great time to reaccess your eating habits and finally get rid of those extra pounds forever.  So, if you started a diet in January and you have already given up, hypnosis is the way forward for you.  Losing weight through hypnosis is not about dieting (the word ‘diet’ puts your subconsious into a state of alert, self survival kicks in thus making you want to eat more  just incase you are going to starve).  It’s about looking after yourself and being kind to your body.  You will find the weight comes off easily and effortlessly – and you don’t have to rely on willpower!

Want to find out what HypnoBirthing(The Mongan Method) is all about?  I will be doing a free talk at the end of Jackie’s yoga class in St Peter’s Hall, Vera Avenue, Grange Park, N21 this Thursday 7th February at 7.30pm.   It is an opportunity for you to meet us and to hear more about the benefits of HypnoBirthing and how it can help pregnant mothers and their partners.  This is absolutely FREE to attend.  Please email us to register your interest and we will do the rest.

The Many Uses of Hypnosis

Hypnosis is most commonly associated with losing weight and stopping smoking. However, you can use hypnosis for many, many other things

For example, hypnosis can enhance your athletic performance. Not only can it be used to increase your self-discipline, it can be used to help you focus on your shot, your stroke, your accuracy (depending on the sport you are playing) to improve each little movement which in turn improves your overall performance. The results of using hypnosis for fitness and competition have proven amazing, making this a valuable training tool for athletes in all sports, at any level.

Hypnosis can be used for overcoming your fears. The fear of public speaking, social engagements, claustrophobia, stage fright, a fear of heights, flights, driving or spiders or snakes … these are all areas that can improve dramatically when hypnosis is administered by a professional hypnotherapist.

Then of course, hypnosis can help you to change your bad habits and behaviours such as nail biting, gambling, drinking too much alcohol, drug abuse, pulling your hair, picking your skin, nervous twitches, OCD,  procrastination, anger etc.

Relationships can be improved at home and at the work place by working on any issues that may be holding you back.  Hypnosis can be an excellent tool when applied to school work, studying, or academics in general by giving you the tools to calm your nerves and taking the edge off your stress.

Self confidence,  determination, motivation and concentration … pain control, depression, anxiety, social anxiety, memory improvement, healing, relationships, tension and stress – the list goes on…..hypnotherapy can help you to  overcome all of these issues which can open up an entire world of new opportunities.

I’m Dreaming of a…………… Good Night's Sleep

I’m Dreaming of a…………… Good Night’s Sleep

You just can’t beat a good night’s sleep…….Waking up in the morning feeling refreshed and full of energy sets you off to a good start to the day.

Sometimes, insomnia is simply the result of a broken routine….. jet lag, night shifts, traffic noise, a snoring partner, new babies or it can be due to stresses and worries of every day life
A lack of sleep can make you miserable, forgetful and crabby and simple things become out of proportion as both the brain and body become overwhelmed and exhausted.
It can affect your concentration, appetite, can cause mood swings, depression, stress, anxiety, impair your performance and can cause you to react irrationally.  In fact, it can make such a massive negative impact on your life.  .
You can understand why sleep deprivation was used as a form of torture as well as a fast route to madness!
There are as many cures as there are causes of insomnia and it can often be overcome without resorting to medication.
And it’s never too late to do something about it, even after putting up with the misery of sleep loss for years
Treatment
Hypnotherapy is often seen as a last resort after all else fails when, in fact, just going through the process of learning self-hypnosis is a big step in the right direction. And hypnosis can have a positive knock on effect for any other problems going on in your life.In hypnosis, the habit of disrupted sleep can be adjusted  to suit the lifestyle and expectations of the most long-suffering insomniac.

Here are a few tips to help re-establish a healthy pattern.

Keep to a routine – i.e. try and go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.
Try to exercise 20 to 30 minutes a day
Avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol
Relax before bed: A warm bath, reading, or another relaxing routine can make it easier to fall sleep
Don’t lie in bed worrying: The anxiety of being unable to fall asleep can actually contribute to insomnia. Write your worries down on paper
Maintain a comfortable temperature in the bedroom.
Replace an uncomfortable or old bed
Block out noise (snoring / noisy street etc) with ear plugs
See your doctor: If you always feel tired, there may be an underlying medical condition which needs treating.
Learn self hypnosis: A good hypnotherapist will teach you a variety of relaxation techniques to enable you, with practice, to fall asleep quickly and sleep soundly through the night. They will also help you cope with any contributory factors like stress or anxiety.

Do you have any fears or phobias?

Do you have any fears or phobias?

Do you fear flying? Scared of heights?  Scared of spiders?  Frightened of feet?  Afraid of appearing on stage? Terrified of trains? Petrified of presentations? Wary of water? Anxious around animals?  Dodging the dentist?

A fear of flying is a learned fear, which may stem from childhood (perhaps if the individual’s parents showed fear) or could have developed after experiencing a particularly terrifying experience (such as bad turbulence or the plane having to make an emergency landing). Fear of flying may also be caused by other fears and phobias such as claustrophobia, fear of heights or agoraphobia. Misunderstandings of the principles of aviation can fuel a fear of flying too.
Treatment
Hypnotherapy can often really help individuals suffering from fears and phobias.  Hypnosis can be used to communicate with the subconscious mind and re-evaluate thinking patterns and behaviour. Hypnotherapy can also help an individual to relax and access a calm, focussed state of mind to help them control their fear.So why contact us?  No matter what you are facing, we are sure that we can help you.  We have a proven track record of success – just look at the testimonials .  We are friendly, informal, affordable and here to help, so no matter what your concern is – get in touch and we can have a no-obligation chat so you can “set yourself free”.

Love Is in The Air – or is it?

By | Anxiety / Panic Attacks, Emergency Hypnotherapy, HypnoBirthing, Hypnotherapy London, Relationships, Resolutions, Stop Smoking, Uncategorized, Weight Loss | No Comments

Love is in the air…….or is it?

As Valentine’s day approaches, I thought it only right to discuss relationships……So, if you are

  • Unsure about how or where to meet the right partner
  • Facing divorce or separation
  • Feeling trapped in the relationship
  • Trying to deal with a partners infidelity
  • Feeling frustrated by a poor physical relationship
  • Wanting to improve your current relationship
Then read on…….All relationships are different.  Some are fun, some are serious, some are happy, some are sad, some are committed, some have their own arrangements, some are active, some aren’t!

You may not understand why your friend has chosen the partner they have, or why your friend is best mates with the wall flower in the corner but we all choose people in our lives for different reasons and are attracted to different characteristics in people (otherwise life would be very dull).

Relationships only work if they have the right balance for you.  Whether it’s a relationship with a family member, colleague, friend or lover, everyone will probably experience relationship problems at some point during their life.

We all react differently to situations and emotions and  it can sometimes be hard to know how to resolve certain issues. If these problems are not dealt with they tend to build up over time.   Lack of communication can be a major problem in a relationship and not being able to express feelings may create pressure on the relationship.

An unhappy relationship can impact on your happiness in other aspects of your life too. Most people are much more likely to be fulfilled with other aspects of their life if they are in a happy, fulfilled relationship.

There are many reasons relationships may not be working as well as they should be, but with determination, love and understanding, lots of relationships can get back on track. It often takes time, effort and compromise to make relationships work, but if this ultimately leads to a fulfilling relationship it’s usually worth exploring the problems.

Remember, people mirror each other.  If you are a ‘shouter’, you are very likely to be shouted back at.  If you are calm and objective, people tend to reciprocate that.

Hypnotherapy can be used to help relationships in a number of ways, from learning how to relax to building confidence. Specifically, hypnotherapy can help to:

  • Put problems into perspective and develop an appreciation of each other
  • Recapture the lost feelings of love, friendship and commitment
  • Help you to forgive yourself and others
  • Learn relaxation techniques allowing you to be calm around each other and react in an appropriate way.
  • Increase your confidence and ability to create new and successful relationships.

Hypnotherapy can help you to communicate with your subconscious more effectively, and ultimately build strong relationships.

Resolutions

“What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve,” Napolean Hill (motivational author).

Happy New Year everyone – So, how are you all doing with your New Year’s resolutions? If you’ve still not had any chocolate, fags or booze you’re doing very well and are a rare breed. Many resolutions are made because —it’s what we “do” every year at this time. And for the majority, the custom of breaking a resolution is as strong a part of the tradition as making it.

In their hearts, most people expect to not achieve their New Year Goal and The main reason is

They Expect to Fail

An old friend of mine used to make a resolution every new year to stop smoking.  Sometimes she would stop for 2 days, other years a couple of weeks but it never lasted. Now, being a hypnotherapist,  the reason is obvious to me.

She always said something like this: “I’m going to stop smoking, I hope” or “I’m going to try to give up smoking” or ”I’m going to stop smoking—at least for a while.”

Notice how she built failure into every one of those resolutions. Frankly, resolutions are the closest thing to hypnotic suggestions. Build in failure and you’ve practically hypnotised yourself to fail.
So you see, people usually make and break resolutions! This is because they rely on their will power to help them achieve their goal. Unfortunately will power resides in the conscious mind which is limited.
Another main reason for people making and breaking resolutions is that deep within,  they don’t believe in themselves. Years of negative input, negative feelings and negative self-talk like “I don’t think I’m good enough” or “I’m a failure” have been imprinted deeply in the subconscious mind. And since the subconscious is also lazy, it doesn’t easily accept positive affirmations just once a year. Feelings that reside in the subconscious were formed through repetitive experiences and through believing what we are told by our elders. So, merely making New Year resolutions each year hasn’t worked for most people.
Treatment
The only way to keep a resolution is to get the subconscious and the conscious in agreement.  If our conscious was the part that was in control, it would be easy to stop smoking/drinking/biting nails, however it’s the subconscious that is control and that is why we need to access it and the best way to do that is through hypnosis.

Santa's jelly belly or a red nose like Rudolph?

By | Anxiety / Panic Attacks, Emergency Hypnotherapy, HypnoBirthing, Hypnotherapy London, Relationships, Resolutions, Stop Smoking, Uncategorized, Weight Loss | No Comments

Santa’s jelly belly or a red nose like Rudolph?

Christmas is just around the corner.  I love Christmas – socialising with friends, fantastic food, a tipple or two, presents galore (hopefully!) and excited children.  It’s so easy to over indulge to then regret it the next day/week feeling out of control.
Wouldn’t you like to feel in control?  Stop after that second glass of champagne?  Say no to those fags.  Resist that 6th sausage roll?  Only have one profiterole?  Just one handful of nuts/crisps as opposed to the whole bowl?
With the party season starting, excitement builds, the corks are popped and self control can go out of the window.  Don’t wake up the next morning regretting dancing on the table in front of your boss or with a sore head and not being able to function properly and wasting the day.
(oops – think I may have revealed too much about myself!  Ho Ho Ho – Ok, so who is going to come and hypnotise me then?)
It’s all about moderation.  We all need to have fun and enjoy ourselves or life would be very dull.  Hypnosis can help you be in control of your eating and drinking habits.

Here’s a few tips:

  • For those of you who are going out ‘boozing’ and don’t want to end up with a bright red nose like Rudolph,  make sure you have a glass of water in between each alcoholic drink.  Just doing this will not only stop you drinking as much but also keep you hydrated so the hang over won’t be so bad.
  • Have a glass of water before you put anything to eat in your mouth.
  • Only eat when you are actually hungry for food and not hungry for love, excitement or to overcome boredom or stress because by the New Year you will be able ‘to shake your belly like a bowl full of jelly!’

Just because it is Christmas, it doesn’t mean you have to forget all your good habits.

With the help of hypnosis, you can enjoy yourself but still reap the rewards of losing weight, overcome any fears or phobias and beat any addictions in a positive way.
Book in your appointment now – don’t let alcohol, fags or food control you this Christmas.

I wish you a very merry Christmas…
